I recently interviewed Lisa Yee over email. A couple of you asked her a question, and she answered them! Without further ado, here are her answers!
1. When you wrote Kanani and Aloha Kanani, how far ahead of time did you start writing her books before January 1, 2011?
I started researching the books over a year before they came out. First narrowed down the animal that Kanani would help rescue (a Hawaiian monk seal), and that helped me identify Kauai as the island where Kanani would live. From there, I wrote a detailed outline for the two books, and then starting writing them!
2. One of my readers, Gracie, asked, "What is your inspiration for the books you write?"
I am inspired by people I meet and places I've visited. I'm not just a writer, I'm a listener. So I like to pay attention to what's going on around me, and take notes all the time, never knowing which ones will trigger an idea.
3. Another one of my readers, Lissie, would like to know what other things besides writing do you enjoy doing?
I love spending time with my family and my dog, Maggie. And I LOVE to read!!!
4. Do you have any future work coming up with American Girl?
I am looking forward to writing more for American Girl, however, there's nothing I can talk about right now.
It sounds as if Lisa Yee is going to be working for American Girl again. Hmmmmm, interesting.:D Your thoughts?
Thank you, Lisa Yee for letting me interview you! It was so much fun and so cool to interview a real author!:D
